A few days ago, Eugene Police arrested 41-year-old Travis Lee Riley after a License Plate Reader (LPR) system flagged his vehicle. Riley was already awaiting sentencing for earlier property and weapons crimes. He is also connected to a recent apartment burglary on W. 6th Avenue that happened late last month, according to the City of Eugene, Oregon.
On Monday, after the LPR system flagged his vehicle, a Eugene Police officer spotted Travis Lee Riley on W. 7th Avenue. Once his identity was confirmed, officers pulled the car over and found Riley in the passenger seat. He was arrested without any trouble. Police later found methamphetamine and pills in his possession, as reported by the City of Eugene.
Travis Lee Riley now faces charges including First-Degree Burglary, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine (over 2 grams), and Unlawful Possession of a Schedule 4 drug (Alprazolam). His arrest shows how technology like License Plate Readers (LPRs) helps police track down suspects. LPRs scan license plates and check them against databases for things like stolen cars or wanted suspects, a stated by the City of Eugene. He is currently being held at Lane County Jail as his case moves forward.
