A former employee of the Department of Justice has stirred quite the scene with an unorthodox protest, turning a hoagie into a weapon against a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer. Sean Charles Dunn, 37, was charged with a felony related to this incident, where he allegedly assaulted the officer with a sandwich and a barrage of insults. This unusual attack occurred on a bustling street of the capital, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia.

After the incident, where Dunn was accused of verbally and physically assaulting the officer, including the firing him with the sandwich, Attorney General Pam Bondi swiftly terminated his employment with the DOJ. Dunn faced his initial court appearance and was released on his own recognizance. In a determined post on social media platform X, Bondi emphasized that any disrespect toward government officials would not be tolerated under her watch. "I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER. Not only is he FIRED, he has been charged with a felony. This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ. You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement," said Attorney General Bondi in a post obtained by the U.S. Attorney's Office release.

On the night of Sunday, Dunn confronted the CPB officer, unleashing a tirade of insults and eventually hurling his sandwich at the unsuspecting law enforcement member. Captured by an onlooker’s Instagram video, Dunn was quickly apprehended after attempting to escape on foot. While being processed at the local police station, Dunn reportedly admitted to his actions, telling an officer, "I did it. I threw a sandwich." According to the charging documents, the verbal altercation and subsequent hoagie hurling occurred on the 2000 block of 14th Street NW at around 11:06 p.m.

The case, now resonating beyond the bounds of a simple altercation, speaks volumes to the tensions between public servants and civilians. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro reinforced the seriousness of the charges against Dunn, pointing out the gravity of assaulting a federal officer. "Let me be clear, if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, be certain we will come after you with the full weight of the law. Our officers have a job to do, and they should not be abused in the process," Pirro stated, as documented in the official statement. The Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the case, with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia spearheading the prosecution.
