A former Green Township police officer, Alexander Grimme, is now facing severe legal ramifications, accused of causing lifelong harm to his ex-girlfriend's infant child. He has been indicted on multiple counts, including endangering children, felonious assault, and strangulation, according to Cincinnati.com. His bond has been set at $500,000 after a not guilty plea in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court, adding to his fraught legal journey that also includes similar charges in neighboring Franklin County, Indiana.
This series of charges, however, is not the beginning of Grimme's troubles, as his former employer, Green Township Police Chief Jim Vetter, recounted a previous conviction wherein Grimme operated a police cruiser while intoxicated and subsequently resigned from his post in July 2021, FOX19 reported, Grimme only served in the police department for a brief six-month tenure before the incident.
Details emerged from the prosecutor's narrative, as obtained by LOCAL12, that outline a tragic January day that pivoted from ordinary to disastrous; Grimme, his girlfriend and her nine-month-old baby had spent what appeared to be an uneventful day at Grimme's mother's house, but the following afternoon, the baby was found unresponsive and had to be rushed to medical care where the infant's injuries were flagged as potential abuse, with Prosecutor Connie Pillich stating the baby "suffered permanent brain damage and now faces serious developmental delays."
The startling juxtaposition of someone once entrusted with upholding the law now repeatedly clashing against it, paints a grim reflection of how quickly and consequentially one's life can derail—Grimme, now caught in the churn of the justice system, awaits the outcomes of the charges laid before him; as he navigates the serious allegations that cross state lines, the gravity of the accusations highlight an irreversible damage, a family forever altered, and a community grappling with the breach of trust that accompanies such heinous allegations against a former officer of the law.
