Mark your calendars for a cultural voyage to the heart of Persia without leaving the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Iranian Festival is rolling out its welcome mat on September 20, from 12 noon to 5:30 p.m., at the Seattle Center Armory Food & Event Hall. Boasting a plethora of Iranian art, music, dance, and more, this festival brings a slice of Iran to Seattle. Originally slated for June, the fest was pushed back, but it’s back in full force with the theme, "Arezoo: The Power of Wish," bringing a spirit of hope and collective dreaming to attendees.
Scheduled during a time when the festival's headliner, Michael Artuni, will dazzle crowds with his music, the event promises a packed lineup. As reported by the Center Spotlight, Omid Bagheri Garakani, a board member of the Iranian American Community Alliance (IACA), highlighted the community's response: "The community has shown us overwhelming support since we made the difficult decision to postpone the Seattle Iranian Festival this past June," said Garakani. Emphasizing the cultural exposition, Chef Omid Roustaei, also known as The Caspian Chef, will present culinary delights from his cookbook, "Bitter & Sweet."
The festival is not only a celebration but an educational opportunity and a gathering space for the Iranian American community and Seattle locals alike. Art exhibits, performances, and small business showcases offer a panorama of what Iranian culture encompasses. The event, geared for all ages and free for the taking, aligns with the Festál series, noted for presenting cultural festivals throughout the year. Guests will have the chance to immerse themselves in a uniquely Iranian experience, complete with the vibrant hues and resonant sounds of a rich cultural heritage.
"I participate in the festival each year because it is important to me for my Iranian culture to be publicly celebrated," told the Center Spotlight interview by Garakani. Illuminating the festival's essence, he added, "For Iranian American people to be proud of their culture and provide an opportunity for our friends and neighbors to learn and enjoy Iranian culture alongside us, it is incredibly special."
