Jim Shore, an artist known for his distinctive folk-art style, has his sights set on Rock Hill, South Carolina, for his latest venture. Shore has acquired a 22,000 square foot building at 109 Hampton Street, which will transform into the Jim Shore Museum Experience and Gift Shop. This new cultural space will be dedicated to showcasing his art and creative legacy, according to an announcement covered by the City of Rock Hill's official news page.
The museum will feature immersive exhibits, video experiences focusing on Shore's artistic journey, and rotating galleries of both Shore’s work and themed collections. Despite, the broad scope of the venture, Shore keeps his emotional connection to the location at the forefront. "Rock Hill has always been close to my heart, and I couldn’t imagine a better place to share my life’s work," Shore told the City of Rock Hill. The space, in addition to highlighting his career, will include a gift shop with exclusive merchandise and limited-edition items.
Mayor John Gettys shared his enthusiasm for Shore’s investment in the local community. "Jim Shore is a true artistic treasure, and we’re thrilled that he’s chosen to invest in Rock Hill," Gettys told the City of Rock Hill. The project not only serves to conserve a historic building in the city’s downtown district but also is expected to foster tourism and cultural enrichment.
The Jim Shore Museum Experience represents an estimated $3 million investment into the area, and, is projected to create 40-60 jobs once operational. Slated to open its doors in late 2026, the museum aims to become a significant attraction in Rock Hill, pulling in fans from all around the nation.
