A fatal fire tore through Riverview Manor, a senior apartment complex in Pittsburgh's Brighton Heights neighborhood, leaving one woman dead and a man injured. The fire was reported at approximately 8:15 p.m. last night, according to WPXI.
Emerging at the scene, emergency responders found a woman in cardiac arrest within the senior high-rise. She was pronounced dead despite efforts to revive her. The blaze managed to confine itself to the fifth floor, as reported by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Assistant Chief Mathew Davis, in a statement obtained by WPXI. Having suffered a laceration to his wrist, a man also received treatment on site.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the initial fire swiftly, preventing its spread to other units. Most residents of the building were cleared to return after the necessary ventilation was conducted. The proximate cause of this tragic event is still unknown, as the investigation by fire experts continues.
Riverview Manor houses approximately 100 units and operates under National Church Residences' management, TribLIVE reported. The extent of how many residents the fire has displaced remains uncertain.
