
A fatal collision occurred Sunday evening in Citrus Heights, leaving one individual deceased and prompting a temporary shutdown of a major roadway. The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department reported to the scene near Fleetwood Drive and Madison Avenue around 8:20 p.m., ABC 10 reports.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an overturned pickup truck and a sedan that both had sustained major damage from the impact. The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Meanwhile, the individual in the pickup truck incurred no injuries and remained on the scene, a statement obtained by KCRA.
The circumstances leading up to the crash have not yet been clarified, as investigations by the California Highway Patrol and the Citrus Heights Police Department are currently underway. Details concerning potential contributing factors to the accident remain under scrutiny as investigators work to unravel the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
As a result of the incident, Citrus Heights Police shut down the westbound lanes of Madison Avenue at the San Juan intersection. The closure, which was necessary to allow emergency crews to handle the aftermath of the crash, was estimated to last until between 11:30 p.m. and midnight. The road has since been reopened to regular traffic flow, and updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
