A small private plane crashed south of Los Banos in Merced County on Tuesday evening, killing the pilot. The plane had taken off from an airport near San Jose and circled the area for about an hour before the crash, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said, according to ABC10.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the plane crash, as reported by both ABC10 and KCRA. Authorities are searching for clues to determine what caused the incident.
The crash site was in a rural area west of Interstate 5 and southwest of Merced, between Highways 165 and 152, the California Highway Patrol said. The pilot’s identity and the cause of the crash have not been released, as mentioned by CBS News Sacramento.
