Matthew McKnight, 46, of Connellsville, the assistant director of operations at Fayette County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), is facing charges following his involvement in a hit-and-run crash that left a man critically injured. The incident occurred last Saturday night around 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of East End Road and Memorial Boulevard in Bullskin Township. According to a report from WPXI, Pennsylvania State Police found that two vehicles were initially stopped when McKnight's vehicle entered their lane at a high rate of speed, colliding with one and pushing it into the other.
The aftermath of the crash was severe, with one driver, 76-year-old James Blackburn of Connellsville, sustaining serious injuries. Blackburn was subsequently flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Following the crash, McKnight reportedly fled the scene but was later located at his nearby home, with his vehicle exhibiting extensive front-end damage.
As detailed by WTAE, authorities took McKnight into custody, and he now faces multiple charges, including DUI and aggravated assault by vehicle.
