Five months after a young man was gunned down on a Brawley street corner in the early morning hours, federal investigators have stepped in with a substantial reward offer, underscoring the ongoing struggle to solve violent crimes in Imperial County's agricultural hub.
Federal authorities are offering a monetary reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual, or individuals, involved in David Mora Barraza's fatal shooting. The FBI's San Diego Field Office announced the reward Wednesday, elevating a case that has remained cold since the March incident, reported on Yahoo News.
The Fatal Early Morning Shooting
Around 2:20 a.m. on March 2, David Mora-Barraza sustained a gunshot wound to the chest near the intersection of East K and South 17th streets in Brawley. He was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Initial reports described the victim as 18 years old, but federal investigators have since clarified that Barraza, then 21, was shot on March 2 shortly before 2:20 a.m. The intersection sits in a residential area of Brawley, roughly six blocks from the city's downtown core, according to Yahoo News.

The FBI's involvement signals the complexity of the case and the need for additional resources beyond local law enforcement capabilities.
