A tragic accident on Interstate 55 in Jefferson County claimed the life of a 37-year-old man yesterday morning when his cement truck overturned, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The incident, which involved a 2016 Freightliner concrete truck, occurred near Highway Z, as reported by First Alert 4.
The driver, a Festus, Missouri, resident whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene. It is believed that he traveled off the west side of the road and upon attempting to correct this, his vehicle tipped over. The accident caused significant disruption to southbound traffic, which had to be diverted onto Route Z for several hours, as detailed by FOX 2 Now.
During the aftermath of the rollover, around 9 a.m., emergency services were quick to respond at the site of the accident, where, MoDOT cameras captured the truck's underside making contact with the center barrier.
