Firefighters in southeast Houston were hustling this morning to subdue a two-alarm fire that engulfed the Del Mar Apartments complex. According to Click2Houston, the incident began around 11:15 a.m. near the intersection of the I-45 Gulf Freeway and Hartsook Street. The fire resulted in substantial damage to multiple apartment units, but at the time of reporting, there were no injuries related to the event.
The situation seemed to rapidly evolve as firefighters were forced to quickly enter buildings, axes and hoses in hand, in an effort to control the blaze and to protect any residents potentially trapped by the fire’s wrath. FOX26 reported that the roof of at least one building in the complex was visibly consumed by the flames. Despite the intense conditions, local responders successfully tapped out the primary fire, though they continued to address lingering hotspots.
Captured by Sky 2 Chopper and shared by Click2Houston, aerial footage showed the aftermath of a heavily scorched roof with exposed units beneath. This visual evidence displayed a stark testament to the intensity of the fire that raged through the complex.
Concerns extended to the responders as well, with one firefighter needing to be transported to the hospital due to heat exhaustion. The cause of the fire remains a mystery, and authorities have yet to ascertain the full extent of the damage inflicted upon the complex.
