Commerce, CA was the site of a significant fire on Wednesday as crews battled a third-alarm blaze at a commercial building. According to KTLA, the fire was reported at around 6:45 p.m. in a structure on the 2000 block of Davie Avenue. Reports indicated the possibility of e-bikes with lithium-ion batteries being stored in the building, though this detail wasn't confirmed by L.A. County fire officials at the time.
With the roof of the building suffering extensive damage and smoke rising high into the sky, firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures, and concerns were raised concerning nearby power lines. The flames, engulfing the property, were brought under control around 7:45 p.m. after crews' diligent efforts to extinguish hot spots.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department provided further details on the incident via a Facebook post. Arriving on the scene just a minute before KTLA's reported time, at 6:44 p.m., firefighters encountered intense smoke and flames. A second and third alarm were subsequently called to address the escalation of the incident.
The fire department announced a knockdown of the fire by 9:30 p.m., with no injuries reported to civilians or firefighters. Remaining on scene, the firefighters conducted overhaul operations to ensure the fire was thoroughly extinguished and the area was made safe. Captured by fire department photographer Doug Morrison, the images accompanying the Facebook post display the formidable nature of the fire. "The cause of the fire is under investigation," the fire department stated, remaining on scene for some time to secure the area.
