Last night in Columbus, a high-speed drama unfolded as police pursued a stolen Kia that had initially fled from a traffic stop, a sequence of events that ended in an injury crash and the arrest of five suspects. According to a social media post by the Columbus Division of Police, the helicopter unit spotted the vehicle around 10:30 p.m. yesterday, after which it led officers on a chase through multiple jurisdictions.
The pursuit came to an abrupt halt when the Kia collided with another vehicle and crashed into a yard on the 1000 block of S. Champion Ave. The driver of the vehicle hit by the Kia was taken to the hospital in stable condition, the Columbus Police reported. The suspects, which included 19-year-old Darrel Fields Jr., 18-year-old Christopher Allmon, two 15-year-olds, and a 14-year-old with a string of warrants, made a break for it on foot but were eventually caught in the area.
During the search, one handgun was found in a nearby yard, with two more retrieved from inside the stolen vehicle. The Columbus Police took to Facebook to share the outcomes of the incident, noting that all individuals involved have a history of motor vehicle offenses. The youngest of the group, the 14-year-old, had existing warrants for Receiving Stolen Property, Obstructing Official Business, among other charges.
