A tragic incident occurred at the Florida Law Enforcement Academy in Tavares, where recruit Morlon Jenkins Jr. died following a medical emergency on his first day of training. As reported by WFTV, the 42-year-old was participating in the program at Lake Technical College when he experienced the emergency at approximately 7:15 p.m. last night.
Despite being transported swiftly to a nearby hospital, Jenkins was later pronounced dead. The Tavares Police Department has yet to determine the exact cause of Jenkins' demise, but detectives are actively working with the Medical Examiner’s Office to investigate thoroughly. It's crucial also to note that Jenkins had been medically cleared for participation in the physically demanding training required by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, as WESH detailed from a statement issued by Lake Technical College, "This student had that clearance."
The program, known for its rigorous physical training component, is a mandated aspect of law enforcement education in the state. The nature of the training that night and the events leading up to Jenkins' medical emergency have not been disclosed to the public, and details remain scarce as inquiries continue.
