Anthony Silva, the former mayor of Stockton, is facing federal charges of bank fraud and identity theft for allegedly falsifying a CARES Act Paycheck Protection Program loan application for his company, Indoor Adventures LLC, in April 2020. Prosecutors say he claimed that “Person 1” owned a majority stake in the company and received a $17,000 loan, even though he was ineligible due to a 2019 felony conviction. Silva said, "This case is about the continuing power struggle between different factions in Stockton," and, "I stand with President Donald J. Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi," according to ABC10.
Federal authorities are pursuing Silva over alleged fraud and misrepresentation related to CARES Act loans, which could result in up to 30 years in prison and $1 million in fines. He reportedly obtained loan forgiveness after his fraudulent actions, intensifying the severity of the charges, as reported by KCRA.
Silva’s tenure as Stockton mayor from 2013 to 2017 included allegations of mishandling funds from the Stockton Kids Club and failing to report a missing firearm later used in the death of 13-year-old Rayshawn Harris. These incidents added to his legal and public controversies, showing a pattern of misconduct during his time in office.
