The 5th District is set to buzz with the sounds of music and the shimmer of a movie screen under the stars. Alderman Lamont Westmoreland is bringing the local community together for a complimentary evening of entertainment dubbed "2025 Rooted Together in the 5th." The event promises to energize the atmosphere at the Wellpoint Care Network located at 8901 W. Capitol Dr. Residents can mark their calendars for August 20, but should note there’s a backup plan for rain on August 27, with festivities kicking off at 5 p.m.

The night will begin with a live performance by Donna Woodall, a singer that has to quickly become a Milwaukee favorite with her jazz and soul performances across noted venues, including St. Kate Arts Hotel and Summerfest. According to a press release, Donna entered the music scene with the Eddie Butts Band and Streetlife, infusing each tune with a palpable spirit and vitality.

As night encroaches and the sun dips below the horizon, around 7:30 p.m., attendees are invited to settle in for an open-air screening of "Remember the Titans." This classic movie depicts a pivotal time in history when a high school football team transcends the racial divides of its era, learning the value of unity and respect. It's a resonant tale in today's climate, where such messages remain just as valuable and pertinent.

A spread of local food trucks will be on-site to deliver an array of culinary delights, from savory gyros and BBQ to sweet ice cream treats. Free popcorn is also up for grabs, so be sure to grab some quickly – it’s available only while supplies last. Moreover, a portion of the food sales will to go directly support Wellpoint Care Network's mission, which is all about fostering equity, learning, healing, and wellness among children and families in Milwaukee.
