In a move that aims to lessen the burden of childcare costs for its employees, Fulton County has rolled out a pilot program, as unanimously voted by the Board of Commissioners. The initiative, according to FOX 5 Atlanta, will offer up to 100 county employees reimbursements for childcare costs, backdated to July 1 and lasting through the end of this year.
Eligible employees who work either entirely on-site or follow a hybrid schedule are invited to enter a random drawing for a chance to receive one of the available slots. Approved last Wednesday, the pilot program allows selected participants to receive up to $500 per month upon providing proof of payment for childcare services. "Fulton County is a big deal and so are our employees," Chairman Robb Pitts shared with FOX 5 Atlanta.
Addressing a critical gap in the program, an amendment has been unanimously passed to cater to employees with children who require special needs care beyond the initially set 10-mile radius. The County Commissioners, discussing this change during a meeting on last Wednesday, demonstrated their commitment to inclusivity. Employees from the sheriff's department were also part of a conversation about priority in the program, however, the HR chief Kenneth L. Herman Jr., clarified that while the idea of a separate initiative for these employees might be entertained, according to a report by Citizen Portal.
As the specifics of the program roll out, the county focuses on providing substantial benefits for their workforce, with Kenneth L. Hermon Jr. expressing his appreciation. "We are extremely grateful to the Board of Commissioners for their support for our workforce. As we recruit talent for the Fulton County workforce, childcare benefits offer a competitive edge," Hermon said in a statement obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta. After the six-month period, the success of the pilot will be assessed with considerations for its continuation in 2026.
