In a significant addition to the leadership of the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency, Gadyaces S. Serralta has been sworn in as the new director of the U.S. Marshals Service. The oath of office was administered by U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi, following Serralta's U.S. Senate confirmation, as duly reported by the U.S. Marshals Service's news release. With a career spanning over three decades, Serralta takes over an agency holding vast responsibilities, including the protection of the federal judiciary, the apprehension of dangerous fugitives, and the management of seized assets.
"I am honored that President Donald Trump appointed me as director of the U.S. Marshals Service," Serralta stated, emphasizing his commitment to the safety of America. He is set to lead an agency with more than 5,000 employees across nearly 300 locations. His extensive experience in law enforcement includes serving as U.S. Marshal for Southern Florida and major roles within the Miami-Dade Police Department.
President Trump previously nominated Serralta as the U.S. Marshal for Southern Florida in April 2018, a position he was confirmed to in August of the same year, overseeing nine counties and seven courthouses. This role cemented Serralta's capability to manage significant law enforcement operations in a district housing over 7 million residents.
Before becoming a U.S. Marshal, Serralta climbed the ranks in the Miami-Dade Police Department, beginning his career in 1990. He has tackled positions ranging from patrol officer to major, grappling with the nuances of criminal street gangs and organized crime. Furthermore, Serralta's educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Studies and a Master of Science in Leadership, the former from Florida International University and the latter from Nova Southeastern University.
