In a recent incident on Emerald Oak Drive in Galt, a man armed with a knife was arrested after allegedly assaulting a family member, according to a social media post by the Galt Police Department. The Galt PD's Communications Center received a 911 call at around 6:00 p.m. reporting the domestic disturbance, leading to immediate law enforcement response which safely evacuated the household members with no injuries sustained.

The suspect in question, identified as 33-year-old Juan Mendoza Gonzalez of Galt, who is on Sacramento County probation, barricaded himself inside the residence when the officers arrived, calls were then made by Gonzalez to the Communications Center where he expressed a desire to be shot by police and as a result, additional support from neighboring police departments, including Elk Grove PD and Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, were called to establish a perimeter to secure the area and prevent any possible threats the suspect might pose to the wider community. In a bid to resolve the situation peacefully, Galt PD crisis negotiators communicated with Gonzalez leading to his eventual exit from the property, although he continued to hold the knife and did not comply with commands to drop the weapon.

Despite the fraught circumstances, negotiators maintained their efforts to de-escalated the incident, which eventually led to officers deploying less-lethal bean bag rounds and a K9 unit to disarm and subdue Gonzalez. Following his apprehension, Gonzalez was transported to a hospital for medical evaluation, and was then booked at Sacramento County Main Jail facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest, with his bail being set at $1,000,000.

The interdepartmental collaboration was acknowledged by the Galt Police Department, expressing gratitude towards the Elk Grove Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, and Sacramento Police Department for their swift support during the stressful engagement.
