The Galt Police Department announced the passing of retired K9 Kane, who died from cancer. The department stated, "He was more than a police dog. He was a partner, a protector, and a part of the family. Whether chasing down suspects or curling up at the end of a shift, Kane gave everything he had every single day." The department said the Foothills K9 Association covered Kane’s medical and memorial expenses and encouraged support for the organization, as reported by the Galt Police Department.
K9 Kane was escorted to his final resting place by fellow K9 units from the Elk Grove Police Department, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, and Sacramento Police Department, as mentioned by the Galt Police Department. The escort honored his service and dedication.
According to the Galt Police Department on their Facebook page, in remembering retired K9 Kane they said, "His giant heart matched his huge personality. He made us laugh, made us proud, and made us better." They ended their message with, "Rest easy, Kane. Thank you for your loyalty, your strength, and your heart. We will miss you, buddy."
