In an effort to extend the influence of Georgia's agriculture, which is the state's top industry, Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper and other economic leaders will work on tightening the economic bonds that have been built with these South American nations, as detailed in a release on the state's official website. The delegation will also include members of the Georgia National Guard meeting their Argentinian counterparts as part of a defense partnership program.
"Companies from South America have invested over \$160 million in Georgia over the last six years, with the bulk of investments and jobs coming from countries where Georgia is represented," Governor Kemp remarked, as stated in the official announcement; he went on to express his commitment to expanding these opportunities so that even more citizens across the state can enjoy the benefits of these growing international relationships.
The mission also coincides with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Georgia's economic office in Brazil, highlighting the enduring trade partnerships. Brazil and Argentina, being vital partners, have seen significant contribution to Georgia's economy, with exports to Brazil amounting to \$748 million and to Argentina \$120 million in the past year alone, reflecting continued intercontinental trade growth. Economic leaders on this mission aim to further solidify and expand these partnerships, which are crucial to Georgia's agriculture, business, and overall economic well-being.
Significant investments from South American companies already manifest in Georgia's labor market and economy, as was the case with the \$400 million investment by Pilgrim's for a new facility expected to create 630 jobs, and Taurus's relocation to Bainbridge, which heralded a $22 million investment and more than 350 jobs as reported by the state's website. The delegation remains hopeful that this economic mission will reinforce these connections and the prosperity of Georgia's economy, bringing to fruition the promise of shared security goals and economic growth that benefit all involved parties.
