In a recent harrowing incident on Stoney Point Way in Germantown, a local man threatened the life of his own child, holding the 9-year-old boy at knifepoint during a domestic disturbance. The Montgomery County Police Department reported that 47-year-old Gokhan Dugan was arrested last Saturday night following a tense standoff with police.
After police received an urgent call for help around 10:14 p.m., officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 5th District arrived on the scene. They quickly found themselves working to deescalate a situation that threatened to spiral out of control, with a volatile Dugan refusing to comply with demands to release his son. Officers pleaded for the child’s safety while trying to communicate with Dugan. According to the police department’s official report, Dugan resisted the officers’ commands, even as they attempted to reason with him.
The situation came to a head when Dugan, knife in hand, was confronted by a 5th District sergeant who made the critical decision to deploy his Taser, effectively disarming the father and averting potential tragedy. This swift response allowed officers to intervene before anyone, including the child or law enforcement personnel, was harmed. Dugan has been charged with first- and second-degree assault, second-degree child abuse, reckless endangerment, and resisting arrest and he remains in custody at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.
