Clear out those closets and drawers because Goodwill Industries of Hawai‘i is gearing up to make the process a little bit easier for Kaua‘i residents. On August 29, a reuse collection event is set to take place at the Kaua‘i Resource Center, located at 3460 Ahukini Road in Līhu‘e. Doors will open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., inviting the community to drop off their unwanted goods. According to a Kauai County press release, accepted items include clothing, small furniture, children's toys, books, and shoes. Even clothing in less than perfect condition is welcome – think torn or stained, but still capable of being recycled or reused.

But take note, there are restrictions. Donors are asked to not bring a list of prohibited items like eWaste, chemicals, appliances, non-clothing baby items, food, medical equipment, or anything that's broken. Before heading in to swiftly drop off your donations, it's encouraged to contact local thrift stores to see if they are accepting these items. Goodwill has made clear that for the safety of all, donors should remain inside their vehicles during the event, due to the presence of heavy machinery and other safety concerns.

For those with bulkier loads or thrift stores and businesses in need of assistance, Goodwill is offering to lend a hand. By calling 808-241-4838, commercial entities can quite easily schedule a pick-up service. And for residents who can't make it to the site, RP’s Random Closet—a for-profit agency—is available for home pick-up at 808-346-0020, as mentioned in the event announcement.

Got questions about what can and cannot be recycled, or looking for further details on reuse? The county's resource line at 808-241-4841 is at your service. Information can also be effortlessly accessed online at the county's dedicated reuse webpage.
