The Nevada County community was struck by tragedy when a local man was found dead on the side of a road in Nevada City, an event that has now led to an arrest. According to a social media post by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office, the body of Adrian Aaron Aaby, 48, of Grass Valley was discovered on July 21, on Banner Quaker Hill Rd.

Authorities deemed Aaby's death a homicide following preliminary findings by the Major Crime Unit (MCU) detectives, leading to the identification of a person of interest, Damon Brice Abraham, also a Grass Valley resident at 49 years old, detectives not only obtained a Ramey arrest warrant for Abraham on the charge of homicide but also acquired a search warrant, in what seems to be a rapid development in the case. On August 7, just days before Abraham's arrest, a search was conducted at his home; he was not present at the time, subsequently he was arrested in Sacramento by California State Parks on unrelated charges and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.

Further to these developments, Abraham is now facing charges for the homicide of Aaby and is expected to be transferred to the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility in Nevada City at a date yet to be determined. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office has acknowledged the assistance of multiple agencies in the case, including the Nevada County District Attorney's Office, Grass Valley Police Department, the Sheriff's Search & Rescue Evidence Team, Placer County Sheriff's Office, and Placer County Morgue.
