In Harris County, 60-year-old Jose Sanches Olivares has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Gloria Guevara. According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and cited by CW39, Olivares was allegedly speeding when he rear-ended Guevara’s vehicle with his pickup truck. The impact caused her car to veer into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by another vehicle.
Guevara, who was pregnant at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene. A teenage passenger in her vehicle, identified as her younger sister, sustained critical injuries. Olivares reportedly fled the scene but was apprehended the following day. Authorities stated that his vehicle showed damage consistent with the crash, including red paint transfer that matched Guevara’s car.
Olivares appeared in court yesterday and was formally charged with two offenses related to the incident. Court records indicate that he has worked in construction for approximately 20 years and lives with his family. His bond was set at $550,000.
Gloria Guevara is survived by a 3-year-old child. Her family is currently preparing funeral arrangements. In a statement provided to KHOU 11, family member Lilian Cabrera said, "She was very excited to have her baby because she lost a baby last year." Cabrera also shared a message from Guevara’s mother: "I think that God knows what he's doing," she said. "We're asking God to give us the strength to deal with this."
Olivares is scheduled to return to court tomorrow, where further details regarding the charges and potential legal outcomes are expected to be presented.
