An early morning fire on Linden Lane in Havre De Grace has left a 66-year-old woman seriously injured and without a home, while also resulting in the deaths of her three cats. The blaze erupted shortly before the break of dawn, with the local fire department receiving the call at 4:19 a.m., as reported by WBALTV. The firefighters, responding swiftly to the emergency, arrived to find the residence engulfed with flames emanating from the first floor.
The woman, before managing to flee to safety, reported hearing a "pop" and subsequently saw a flash of fire, which occurred after she turned on her oxygen concentrator. This detail, among others, was shared by the survivor who is currently listed in guarded condition at Shock Trauma, according to a statement detailed by Fox Baltimore. Neighbors raised the alarm upon witnessing the fire, proving crucial to getting assistance to the scene quickly.
The Office of the State Fire Marshal is actively investigating the cause of the fire. While officials have not yet confirmed whether a smoke alarm was in place and operational at the time of the incident, the house and all the woman's possessions were declared a complete loss.
