A school bus in Hays County was ensnared by a sinkhole early Monday morning after a water line rupture led to the collapse of the roadway beneath it. According to a statement obtained by KXAN, the incident took place on Dove Lane and involved Hays Consolidated Independent School District bus number 2251. Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra reported that two students were on board at the time of the accident, but no injuries were sustained.
Caught leaning into the crevice, the back left tire of the bus was. Judge Becerra shared a photograph on Facebook depicting the scene. While no one was injured, the response involved local law enforcement to ensure the safety and manage the situation. Informed of the incident, law enforcement was promptly contacted to help, Becerra said.
According to CBS Austin, which reached out to the district for more information, alternative transport was hastily arranged for the students affected by the mishap.
Details remain sparse on the extent of the damage to the bus or the surrounding infrastructure. However, it was the water main bursting that underpinned the road's failure, leading to the formation of the sinkhole. "A water line burst, causing the road to give way," Becerra told KXAN, emphasizing the origin of the collapse. The community waits as the district and local utilities assess the incident's impact and the work ahead for repairs.
