Last night, a collision at the intersection of Little York Road and the Eastex Freeway feeder resulted in injuries to a Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputy and two civilians. The deputy was responding to a 911 call without activated lights or sirens when his vehicle collided with a Pontiac driven by an individual now under investigation for driving under the influence, as reported by Click2Houston.
Public information from the HCSO indicates that the deputy, a 25-year-old man, had been traveling eastbound and maintained the right of way at the time of the crash. Despite the impact, the deputy sustained only a cut to his arm and was treated at the scene. Nonetheless, the driver and passenger from the Pontiac were transported to the hospital by ambulance, although as a precautionary measure rather than for urgent medical attention.
Further details provided by The Houston Chronicle reveal that the accident occurred as the deputy's car was struck while legally passing through a green light, when the Pontiac Vibe SUV, making an ill-timed turn, entered its path. Sgt. B. Bondurant of the HCSO, in an interview obtained by the publication, stated that the occupants of the SUV showed "no real injuries" but presented "possible signs of intoxication."
While the deputy involved in the collision refused medical transport and is expected to recover without incident, authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. According to Sgt. Bondurant, the man and woman in the SUV were in their 30s and 40s, respectively, and were hospitalized as a precaution.
