In a move acknowledging dedication and adeptness in the field of corrections administration, the Georgia Department of Corrections recently celebrated the promotion of one of their own. Heather Dykes, previously stationed at Dooly State Prison as an Accounting Technician III, has been appointed as the new Deputy Warden of Administration at McRae Women’s Facility. The promotion, effective since yesterday, was announced with an air of optimism for Dykes's future contributions to the facility.
As the new deputy warden, Dykes is set to oversee a multitude of administrative functions essential for the day-to-day operations of the prison. Her new responsibilities will include managing the business office, property/supply operations, and the food service departments at McRae, which is currently home to around 1,200 female offenders. Commissioner Tyrone Oliver remarked on the occasion, stating, "Heather has demonstrated exceptional dedication and integrity, along with her commitment to the GDC mission," in a statement obtained by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Dykes's ascension within the GDC was rapid, having started her career with the state in 2023. In a concise span of time, she has managed to climb from Administration Support II to her recently acquired post. Her roles have developed increasingly complex, reflecting a trajectory of both gaining expertise and yielding trust among her superiors and peers alike.
Further strengthening her resume, Dykes is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration and has completed Supervision I training with the GDC. In addition, she holds a certificate as a Georgia Certified Purchasing Associate, positioning herself to truly excel in her administrative prowess within the corrections sphere. "We look forward to seeing her excel in this new chapter of her career with the team at McRae," Commissioner Oliver added, indicating confidence in her continued progress and growing capacity to significantly contribute to the department's mission.
