The wheels are in motion for the Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 budget in the city, with the municipal operating budget preparation currently underway. As indicated in a recent notice published on the city's website, the budget period is set to begin on October 1, and will run through September 30, 2026.
The City Council has a few weeks dedicated to parsing through the draft budget for FY 2026. Significant to the process is the capacity for change – if council members see fit to request revisions, they can do so at their regular bi-monthly meetings. Transparency is key for the city's administration, and residents are encouraged to take part in the shaping of their city's finances. The community can get an eye-full of the draft budget and also voice their opinions by signing up to speak at the forthcoming City Council Meetings.Interested parties are advised to note that meetings take place on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
For those unable to attend in person, City Council meetings can be viewed live on the City’s YouTube channel and are also recorded for later viewing. The fiscal plan is scheduled for formal adoption through an ordinance on Thursday, September 25, when the Council will cast its final votes, offering the public a clear view of the city’s financial direction, as per the city's announcement.
