Get ready for a month-long rhythm and groove session in Hickory this September. The City of Hickory's Sails Original Music Series, an initiative that spotlights original tunes and musical storytelling, is popping the top off its free concert series once again. According to an announcement on the City of Hickory's official website, live performances will rock Union Square every Friday night, with a special Saturday shindig mid-month.

Kicking off at 7 p.m. on September 5, 12, and 26, these concerts are set to fill downtown Hickory with everything from the twang of surf country to the infectious rhythms of funky jams. And, don't mark your calendars for the 19th, instead, the action moves to Samuel William Davis Sr. Multipurpose Field in Taft Broome Park for a "Festival on the Field" starting at 5 p.m., culminating in a Sails Original Music Series event at 6 p.m.

The musical lineup curated for Hickory's autumnal airwaves includes 'Psychedelic Surf Country' led by Joel Timmons, known for his band Sol Driven Train. His new solo project promises a blend of surfy, rocky vibes with a humorous twist. Next, Jacoozy brings their improv funky beats for a dance-worthy Friday night. On September 20, Selwyn Birchwood returns to the Hickory stage with his "Electric Swamp Funkin’ Blues," a genre that's as eclectic and energetic as it sounds. Finally, 'New Translations' wraps up the series, the band formerly known as Jive Talk, bringing their Warner Brothers-signed sounds back to the town.

The Sails Original Music Series, since its inception in 2012, has brought national and international touring acts to The Sails on the Square, celebrating music in its most original form. The event wouldn't be the same without its sponsors. Shoutout to presenting sponsor Protection Products, Inc., and tip of the hat to Bob Sinclair Music, Larry’s Music & Sound, Pfahlert Creative Labs, Olde Hickory Brewery, and Crowne Plaza for their support, all helping to make the music happen. So, grab a lawn chair, a friend, and head on down to Hickory's September sessions, where the music is as real as it gets.
