A tragic incident unfolded in Caldwell County as a motorcycle crash claimed the life of a Hickory woman yesterday night. According to WSOC-TV, Belinda Diane Sain, age 61, was riding her motorcycle along Petra Mill Road in Granite Falls when she lost control, driving off the road and colliding with several mailboxes and a parked vehicle.
Despite the immediate response of emergency services, Sain succumbed to her injuries at the scene. The incident, which occurred around 7:40 p.m., led to Petra Mill Road being closed for investigation purposes lasting about an hour, as reported by WBTV. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol, who were on the scene to conduct the investigation, stated that neither speed nor impairment were the factors leading to this fatal accident. This has added to the growing concerns regarding motorcycle safety and the unpredictability of road accidents.
Details further to the crash investigation provided by the NC State Highway Patrol reveals that Sain was thrown from her motorcycle as a result of the impact. "Neither speed nor impairment appear to have played a role in the crash," clarified troopers in a statement, according to QC News.
The area has since been reopened to traffic. The NC State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the accident and has not released further details at this time.
