Early this morning, a high-speed pursuit involving the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office ended in a dramatic crash east of downtown Cleveland. The chase began after officials responded to reports of dozens of shots fired around 2:30 a.m. near E. 40th Street and Quincy Avenue, as News 5 Cleveland reported.
The incident escalated when a sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a stolen Kia, which ultimately crashed into a pole at E. 40th Street and Kelley Avenue. According to Cleveland19, five suspects were arrested, four of whom were juveniles and one an adult. The authorities successfully managed to take these individuals into custody using drones and K-9 units to aid in their search, with one suspect still at large.
The sheriff’s cruiser also suffered damages post-collision, reportedly hitting a building during the pursuit. Cleveland Firefighters were dispatched to assist, utilizing their ladder truck to access the roofs of nearby buildings in the search for the suspects. FOX8 noted that several other police departments joined in the manhunt, which employed a drone and a K9 unit in its operations.
Five guns were discovered at the site of the crash, as local law enforcement worked extensively through the early morning hours to secure the area. Meanwhile, a Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office cruiser was left mangled post-impact, its deputy and K9 inhabitant reportedly emerging safe from the wreckage. Mike Vielhaber, an overnight news tracker, detailed the pursuit and arrest scenes via social media, and said he "heard multiple shots fired right before the chase began," as News 5 Cleveland captured in his tweets.
No injuries were reported among the suspects or the deputies. As the search for the final suspect continues, the names of the individuals taken into custody have not been released.
