Hillsborough County is focusing on Apollo Beach Boulevard in response to growing safety concerns along the increasingly trafficked corridor. With the population in Apollo Beach on the rise, the county is evaluating a range of proposals aimed at improving safety for all users—pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and other forms of transportation.

The proposals, which are being reviewed following a previous study, include adding sidewalks to fill gaps, considering the conversion of a through lane for the exclusive use of bicycles and possibly golf carts, and implementing mid-block crossings. In responding to community concerns, the study also seeks to assess the possibility for new left-turn lanes at an intersection known for its complications amongst local travelers, found at Fairway Boulevard and Manila Palm Way.

Those interested in viewing and discussing the proposed changes will have a chance at a public engagement meeting. According to a recent post by Hillsborough County, an Open House is scheduled for August 12 at 6 p.m. at Apollo Beach Elementary School. Furthermore, for those unable to attend in person, Hillsborough County Public Works is offering virtual public engagement through August 19, where residents can learn more and offer their input on the initiative.

For additional questions or comments, residents can contact Hillsborough County Public Works. Contact information includes the email address [email protected] and the phone number (813) 635-5400.
