Hillsborough County has opened applications for its annual Neighborhood Awards, providing an opportunity for local groups to be recognized for their community efforts. According to a statement from Hillsborough County, the awards highlight projects and events carried out between July 2024 and June 2025. Eligible initiatives may include creating nature trails, organizing food donation drives, or offering swim safety classes.

There are different categories in which neighborhoods can showcase their achievements: Healthy, Safe, and Engaged. According to the definition by the county, Healthy projects promote aspects like environmental stewardship, the Safe category is about boosting disaster preparedness or enhancing safety, while Engaged covers building the community spirit through volunteerism or communication efforts.

Communities interested in participating can refer to last year’s winners on the Neighborhood Awards page for examples of recognized projects. To be eligible, groups must be listed on the Hillsborough County Neighborhood Roster. Applications for one or more of the three award categories must be submitted by August 22, no later than 5 p.m.

Winners in each award category will be notified in September, with one neighborhood receiving the additional title of 2025 Neighborhood of the Year. This recognition includes a $500 award to support future neighborhood efforts.
