In what's becoming a routine bulletin from the law enforcement beat, Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan has detailed the latest clampdown in the city’s public spaces, targeting alleged drug activity. In an operation unfolded yesterday, Holyoke Police teamed with the Hamden County Narcotics Task Force and FBI western Massachusetts Gang Task Force to keep their watchful eye over Soucy Park—a known hotbed for narcotics dealings.

The day’s efforts weren't without fruit. Conducting surveillance, officers observed transactions they suspected were illicit drug deals. According to the Holyoke Police Department's social media post, one individual, David Fratini, was stopped on Cabot Street, leading to the discovery and seizure of two bags of heroin, an arrest quickly followed for possession.

The surveillance continued, and officers then turned their attention to another suspect. The man, later identified as Malvin Rodriguez, found himself in cuffs before long. Spotted riding his bicycle to a nearby car wash at the corner of Cabot Street and Main Street, Rodriguez's arrest also brought a haul—the seizure of over $200 in cash, and a charge of distributing a Class A drug, the police department confirmed.

With 45-year-old Malvin Rodriguez of Springfield now facing charges of distribution of a Class A drug and 37-year-old David Fratini of Three Rivers charged with possession, the operation in Soucy Park serves as the latest reminder of the ongoing efforts to curtail drug-related crime within the city's public spaces.
