Students from the Hawaii Permanente Medical Group Summer Program recently had the opportunity to delve into the world of forensic science during a visit to the Honolulu Police Department's Scientific Investigation Section. The immersive experience provided these curious minds from high school and college with a first-hand look at how forensic experts analyze evidence and solve crimes. According to the Honolulu Police Department, the visit included tours of the DNA lab, drug lab, and crime scene unit.
Participants in the program witnessed the meticulous process of handling and studying genetic material, and the precise methodologies employed in drug identification. Their experience was not just observational; the students also engaged in a hands-on activity where they developed and compared fingerprints.
