Tragedy struck on Independence Day when Houston police discovered a critically injured man at 1000 Wirt Road, leading to an ongoing investigation into what has now become a case of fatal assault. The incident was reported at approximately 11:25 a.m. on July 4, turned grave when the victim, identified as 59-year-old Trinidad Garcia, succumbed to his injuries a week later in the hospital, pronounced deceased on July 11.
Details remain sparse, but according to an official release from the City of Houston, HPD Homicide Division's Sergeant W. Dunn and Detective L. Brooks found Garcia unresponsive with injuries in a parking lot, after which he was immediately transported to an area hospital by paramedics, fighting for his life until his unfortunate passing. Last Tuesday, police charged 28-year-old Jesus Medellin with aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury in connection to the crime, his booking photo distributed as part of the news release.
With Garcia's death, the charges against Medellin may escalate, pending autopsy results that will determine the exact cause of death.
