A $500,000 bond was set for Omar Marzouk, a 38-year-old man accused of fatally shooting Jimmy Arevalo, a contractor, outside a Houston business. Marzouk's initial court appearance followed his arrest by officers from HPD Southwest Patrol Division after being captured yesterday, as reported by Click2Houston. The confrontation occurred early Wednesday, when officers responded to a call at a convenience store on Calumet Street near South Freeway and Brays Bayou. Arevalo was in the midst of his work, power washing outside the joined business of a convenience store and OMG Seafood, when the fatal encounter took place.
Court documents and surveillance footage reveal that Marzouk approached Arevalo while he was pressure washing restaurant equipment. A dispute ensued, which escalated quickly and tragically, with Marzouk allegedly opening fire, seemingly due to being upset over the noise created by the pressure washer. The grisly aftermath captured on video showed the suspect fleeing in a gray Toyota Tundra. The details gleaned from the documents were provided by ABC13.
Omar Marzouk is now facing murder charges for his alleged role in the shooting, as confirmed by the Harris County District Attorney's Office. The aftermath of the shooting was described heartbreakingly by Arevalo's brother, Anthony, who not only lost his sibling and business partner but had to witness the immediate harrowing scene. "It was terrible. My baby brother, just to see him in a pile of blood. He tried to speak but because of all that blood he couldn’t," Anthony conveyed in an interview with Click2Houston.
According to court documents, post-shooting, Marzouk is alleged to have attempted to sell various items such as cars and tools before his arrest. The documents also detail the emotion from Anthony Arevalo, the victim's brother, who found Jimmy's body and later described Marzouk as a "monster with no regard for human life" in an interview cited by ABC13.
