
Tragedy struck in north Houston this weekend when a man was found dead by his girlfriend after a suspicious FaceTime call and a friendly encounter turned fatal. As reported by FOX 26 Houston, the incident occurred last Saturday night around 9 p.m. near the 7400 block of North Main Street, where the victim engaged in what appeared to be harmless banter at a bus stop before things took a sudden and deadly turn.
During the video call with his girlfriend, an unidentified male approached and conversed with the victim, but what appeared to be a benign interaction swiftly evolved as the victim abruptly began to run and the call fell into silence, Houston Police Lieutenant Khan revealed in a statement obtained by ABC 13 Houston. The girlfriend, utilizing her iPhone's location services, discovered her boyfriend's phone and, consequently, his body in a grassy area nearby, confirming the worst of her fears.
Authorities have yet to disclose the identities of those involved, and no suspect information has been released. In an environment where METRO jurisdictions have witnessed an alarming spike in major crimes, as indicated by recent data showing 378 major crimes from October 2023 to September 2024 and 498 such offenses up until June 2025, the impact of one more grim statistic is felt deeply by the community. METRO has responded to the uptick in crimes with a pledge to increase patrols in unspecified "hot spots."
The victim, known to work at a local barber shop, is remembered fondly by a friend who described their camaraderie with a quote to ABC 13 Houston, "He definitely was my friend, like i could come up there he be like hey 'k'money what's up?' like that's crazy. Y'all really shot my friend he doesn't do anybody to nobody," she said, her words punctuated by shock and grief over the senseless loss.
