A recent incident at a department store in Houston turned a simple act of shoplifting into a case of aggravated robbery when a suspect brandished a handgun at an approaching store employee. The Houston Police Department's Robbery Division has released details of the event and is seeking public assistance in identifying the individual responsible for the crime that occurred on August 12, 2025.
According to the Houston Police Department's account, it was around 7:00 p.m. that Tuesday evening when the male suspect entered the store located on the 11200 block of Fondren. He proceeded to pick up several clothing items and made his way to exit the store without intent to tender payment for the merchandise. This was observed by a store employee who confronted the suspect as he attempted to leave. The employee encountered a threatening situation as the suspect reached into his backpack and revealed a handgun, reportedly to dissuade the employee from further intervention, which resulted in the employee stepping aside and the suspect fleeing the scene.
The suspected shoplifter, whose act escalated into what is now considered aggravated robbery, is described as a Black male in his 30s, with a height around 5'5", a thin build, and was last seen wearing a black shirt, camo pants, and black shoes. Authorities are making a public appeal for anyone who might have information related to this case.
Crime Stoppers of Houston is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to charges or the arrest of the felony suspect, laying out the terms that informants must contact them directly through specified channels. These include calling 713-222-TIPS (8477), submitting information online at their website, or through their mobile app to remain anonymous and be eligible for the cash payment.
