A hiker was successfully rescued from the Lanikai Pillbox Trail in Kailua earlier this month, as per reports from the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD). The incident that prompted the rescue took place on August 4 and involved a woman in her 60s who could not make her way back down the trail after sustaining an injury. The HFD dispatch received the emergency call at 10:48 a.m. and swiftly responded with six units and 18 personnel.
The first responders reached the scene at 10:57 a.m., quickly took charge, and began the ascent to locate the hiker. A second team was assigned to secure a landing area in anticipation of potential air rescue operations. According to information made available on the HFD's official website, the rescue team reached the distressed hiker at 11:23 a.m. Immediately, they assessed her medical condition and provided the necessary basic life support until she could be evacuated.
Subsequently, the hiker was airlifted from the trail to the designated landing zone. This operation was carried out by the team aboard Air 1, with the transfer of care to Emergency Medical Services promptly following at 11:48 a.m. It is crucial to note that the meticulous efforts of the HFD ensured not just the safety of the hiker, but also the well-being of the rescue personnel, as no injuries were reported among the team members.
