The Iredell County Public Library is set to expand its reach with the debut of its new Mobile Library, an initiative aimed at bringing library resources to communities far and wide. A ribbon cutting ceremony for the vehicle will occur on September 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the library's main branch, located at 201 North Tradd Street in Statesville.
This event, marking a significant step for public access to educational resources, technology, and programs, will be attended by several notable figures, including Iredell County officials and Representative Jeff McNeely, who played a pivotal role in securing the necessary funds. According to Iredell County announcements, the Mobile Library is specifically designed to serve less accessible, underserved, and rural areas. Grace Schermerhorn, Outreach Librarian, expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "The folks who struggle to get to the library tend to be the ones who need our services the most, and our new Mobile Library will be able to bring the library to them."
The vehicle is more than just a bookmobile; it comes fully loaded with a wide-ranging collection of reading materials, adult literacy resources, and enhanced technology, including accessible Wi-Fi. Intent on making stops at schools, community centers, and various locations throughout Iredell County, the Mobile Library is set to ensure that the wealth of the public library system is within everyone's reach.
The ribbon cutting event is open to the public and members of the media, providing a chance to tour the Mobile Library and discover all of its amenities and services firsthand. The new Mobile Library project was made possible not just through State Capital and Infrastructure Fund backing but also by grant funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, under the Library Services and Technology Act and administered by the State Library of North Carolina.
