The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) Motorcycle Unit recently demonstrated their exceptional riding capabilities, claiming victory at the Henderson Police Motorcycle Skills Competition held earlier this summer. This event provided a stage for motor officers from various regions to exhibit their expertise and foster inter-agency connections.

During the event, JSO's prowess was on full display, as officers took home an array of awards. Officer Scott Lundquist led the charge with several accolades, including first place in the expert categories of Night Ride, Dynamic Duo alongside Paul VanLooven, Expert Windshield, and also clinching the Last Man Standing title. VanLooven himself seized the first place in the Expert Metric, while fellow officers Jonathan Gonyeau and Josh Tapley were recognized in the same category with the third and first places respectively. Daniel Collins secured his spot with second place in Expert Fairing and as a contributing member to the second Place Team Overall, this team also included Lundquist, Dylan Bostick, and Christian Madsen, whereas, VanLooven teamed up with Jason Young to take the third Place Team Overall. Overall, Scott Lundquist brought home the second place and Paul VanLooven rounded out the top ten in 10th place overall.

These accomplishments reflect not just individual skill but also the collective effort of the JSO Motor Unit, which extends its knowledge through teaching. The team offers the S.M.A.R.T. Motorcycle Safety Course, aiming to enhance community safety by imparting critical riding techniques for navigating real-world scenarios.

The free course is up for another session, with classes scheduled for next Saturday, and September 6 as announced in a recent press release from the Sheriff's office.
