It's a packed week in Gaston with an array of events that are sure to cater to a wide variety of interests and passions. According to Gaston County Government's announcement, this week sees the Gaston Men's High School Soccer Cup, the NC BeachBlast Festival, Family History & Genealogy Fair, a Volunteer Summit, the Clear the Shelters Adoption Day, and a special Superheroes Night with Ghost Peppers among the scheduled festivities.
For sports enthusiasts, the Gaston Men’s High School Soccer Cup will unfold throughout the week, bringing Division I and II games to the fields of George Poston Park, all steps away from the 1101 Lowell Spencer Mountain Road. Separate from the competitive sports, the community can bask in beach tunes as the NC BeachBlast Festival sets up stage at Kings Mountain Patriot Park. Festivities kick off Friday at 6 p.m. and resume Saturday at noon, offering a slate of sun, music, and celebration.
On the cultural front, the Gaston County Public Library is inviting residents for a dive into their ancestry at the Family History & Genealogy Fair on Saturday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. They emphasize that no reservation is required for this event, which allows participants to engage with representatives from various historical and genealogical organizations.
Simultaneously, the N.C. Cooperative Extension is spearheading the inaugural Gaston Volunteer Summit with the goal to strengthen community bonds through inclusive dialogue and shared volunteer work. The event promises to lay out the Gaston County’s ongoing efforts and invites feedback through listening to the public. Interested parties can join between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Citizens Resource Center.
The same Saturday also offers an opportunity to visit the Animal Care & Enforcement for their Clear the Shelters Adoption Day from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. With a plethora of vendors and a chance to find a 'furever' friend, this event is aiming to make a positive impact on both local animals in need and potential adopters.
Concluding the week's events, a Superheroes Night at CaroMont Health Park will spotlight Gastonia’s own local heroes. Set for 7:00 p.m., the evening will celebrate Policemen, Firefighters, and EMS personnel, paying homage to those who serve with valor in our community.
