Jefferson County Head Start is on the verge of growing its foothold in the realm of early childhood education within Lakewood and Golden. After securing a federal grant from the Office of Head Start, the program is opening four new locations to serve an additional 64 preschoolers and 16 toddlers, as detailed by Jefferson County, revealing the expansion is expected to kick off on Oct. 1.
A serious boon for the communities involved, these additional centers come to fruition while grappling with what has been consistently called a child care crisis. In alliance with such expansion, the centers are slated to operate on a four-day school week, with the young minds being nourished Tuesday through Friday for substantial 7.5-hour sessions. Among the soon-to-function sites are 11th Ave. Head Start, Patterson Early Head Start and Pre-K, as well as Patterson Pre-K in Lakewood, and Golden’s Daniels Head Start.
The specifics of the locations, as reported by Jefferson County, reveal that both toddlers and preschoolers will be welcomed at 11th Ave. Head Start, located at 6201 W. 11th Ave., and Patterson Early Head Start and Pre-K, at 1470 and 1480 South Yarrow Street. Patterson Pre-K will cater exclusively to preschoolers at 7735 W. Florida Ave., as will Daniels Head Start at 1301 Union Street.
Families looking to leverage this opportunity can glean more from the program's website or make contact via phone to explore the prospect of enrolling their children. Embracing the mission to empower families to become stronger, healthier, and self-reliant, Jefferson County Head Start has been offering its comprehensive, no-cost services to the community faithfully since 1997.
