A Jewish-owned business in Baltimore, Kitchen Design by Idan, was defaced with red paint in what the Baltimore Zionist District is calling a “calculated, targeted, and hate-fueled” act of vandalism. The damage on the property at the 6000 block of Falls Road, including a desecrated Israeli flag and storefront, was discovered yesterday, according to FOX Baltimore. Baltimore County Police, arriving on the scene, confirmed the attack on the business and began an investigation immediately.
In response to the incident, Caren Leven, the Executive Director of the BZD, minced no words in describing the gravity of the situation. "This was not just vandalism — this was a hate crime. A Jewish-owned business in Baltimore was deliberately targeted, and we are demanding that local and state leaders treat it with the urgency it deserves. Antisemitism is rising, and silence is complicity. We expect public condemnation, a full investigation, and accountability," Leven said in a statement obtained by FOX Baltimore. The BZD has also urged the public to show solidarity by supporting Jewish-owned businesses and raising their voices against hate.
Baltimore County Councilman Izzy Patoka has echoed the call for vigilance against hate, denouncing the act on social media. "When it comes to expressions of hate, there can be no tolerance. Antisemitism has no place in our county, state, or country. We must continue to call it out and speak with moral clarity," Councilman Patoka stated, as detailed by WMAR-2 News.
Surveillance footage from the site revealed a man throwing paint across the walkway and at the flags around midnight. The BCPD has been working with local Jewish organizations, being in direct contact with them to address potential concerns since the attack was discovered early this morning by the Baltimore County Police at 7:00 a.m. Further efforts to maintain open lines of communication with the community are ongoing.
