Quiet streets in Jenny Lind were the scene of alarm earlier this month when gunshots disrupted the peace in this typically serene Calaveras County community. According to a social media post from the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a call on August 2, finding an adult male with a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. The incident occurred at around 7:30 PM in the 10000 block of Milton Road.
The situation unfolded when the victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was visiting relatives. It became apparent that the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Jose Luis Preciado, started to become more paranoid and agitated. Opting to leave, the victim was shot at while attempting to retreat in his vehicle. He managed somehow to drive off and alert authorities. The deputies arriving at the scene noticed a bullet hole through his windshield and collected evidence that led to a subsequent search warrant issued for Preciado's residence.
Efforts from the investigation team culminated in the recovery of a .40 caliber pistol and carbine, along with ammunition that corresponded with the recovered evidence. "Jose Preciado was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Calaveras County Jail and charged with Penal Code 664/187(a), 'Attempted Murder'," detailed the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office announcement. All confiscated firearms and ammunition were booked into evidence.
