Two Kansas City men have received their sentences for a carjacking incident that occurred in St. Louis County last year. Reginald Hudson, 29, is looking at 125 months behind bars, as decreed by U.S. District Judge John A. Ross on Monday. Previously, on July 9, Ki’Juan Calhoun, 28, was sentenced to 144 months in prison. Both men are also required to cough up $24,438 in restitution, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of Missouri.
Following a plea in April, Hudson and Calhoun admitted to their roles in the carjacking and to brandishing firearms during the crime. They confronted a woman on January 12, 2022, taking a 2019 Ford Fusion at gunpoint at her St. Louis County apartment. After spotting two men descending the stairs, guns in hand, she handed over her car keys, purse, and phone, according to the same statement by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
In the courtroom, Judge Ross addressed the victim directly, underlining the fear she must have felt during the robbery: "I completely understand the terror you had to be feeling that night." This quote comes from the court's proceedings documented by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The pursuit of justice did not take long. The Kansas City Police Department discovered the stolen vehicle the next day, not far from Hudson's location, and a search turned up the victim's purse and debit card, along with two handguns. The St. Louis County Police Department took the lead on the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Walker steering the prosecution.
